Aptima is seeking an Associate Instructional Systems Designer to join its Programs Group. A successful candidate will work as part of a team to analyze Government Furnished Information (GFI) and work with government Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and develop new curricula and immersive multimedia instruction (Levels I-IV). Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support various analyses, as required, which may include: needs assessment, job-duty task analyses (JDTAs), front-end analyses (FEAs), media selection, and learning gap analyses.
  • Support knowledge elicitation activities, which may include: interviews, focus groups, workshops, and survey development.
  • Identify learning experiences that close knowledge/skill gaps, based on instructional theory and best practices from the field of ISD.
  • Assist in development of instructional materials, including student/instructor guides, checklists, how-to guides.
  • Apply ADDIE process and principals of adult learning to create innovative learning events ranging from ILT to WBT to Performance Support. 
  • Use commercial eLearning authoring software to assist with creating and updating training curriculum, videos, e-learning modules, supplemental learning materials, etc. 
  • Support the design, development and review of highly interactive and immersive instruction that incorporates 2-D and 3-D equipment, avatars, and job performance tools
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop lessons based on job and task data
  • Develop and review learning objectives
  • Develop meaningful learner performance metrics
  • Develop digital storyboards that illustrate the flow of interactive courseware
  • Design, implement and interpret evaluation and assessment instruments
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop realistic scenarios that address learning objectives
  • Work with multimedia developers to identify 2-D and 3-D models and required fidelity levels
  • Develop learner assessment documents containing knowledge-based questions, steps that learners must perform in the 3-D environment, cues signaling equipment faults, and other assessment data
  • Support Quality Assurance process

Minimum Requirements:

  • US Citizenship
  • Master's degree in Instructional Systems Design, I/O psychology, Education or a related field OR equivalent experience
  • Active clearance, minimum Secret level, with ability to be cleared to the Top Secret level
  • Work-related experience designing and developing web-based interactive courseware for adult learners
  • Experience designing and developing interactive media instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a production environment developing new technologies (e.g., with software engineers)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), which will need to be demonstrated in a "job talk" should candidate make it to an in-person interview
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Any of the following would be a plus:

  • Experience with learning and content management systems (LMS/CMS)
  • Familiarity and experience implementing digital learning in accordance with industry standards such as the experience API (xAPI).
  • Experience designing and developing level III/IV interactive multi-media instruction
  • Experience designing and developing instruction for military or government personnel
