Aptima currently has an opening for an onsite Data Science/Research Engineer in Dayton, OH who will help design and develop tools, scripts, and software modules for processing, storing, and analyzing data sets of varying size. We are seeking a highly motivated professional that can work as part of a fast-paced, collaborative team. This position will involve developing and refining data models as part of a data lake architecture along with developing and implementing innovative methods for data correlation, aggregation, and display. The position will also involve development of data retrieval queries from a data lake and/or document database.


Minimum requirements:

  • US Citizenship
  • Active clearance, minimum Secret level, with ability to be cleared to the Top Secret level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field and 4-10 years demonstrated work experience.
  • Ability to efficiently manage tasks and priorities across multiple software projects and teams.
  • Proficient in Python and JavaScript programming languages.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational and document-oriented databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Object oriented development methods.
  • Familiar with software engineering tools (e.g. IDE's such as Anaconda, Spyder, NetBeans, Visual Studio, version control including Gitlab, etc.).

The ideal candidate will have experience and proficiency with:

  • Python, R, JavaScript, Matlab, ElasticSearch, Kibana and other data analytics tools
  • Developing innovative dashboard, data analytics, and data telemetry displays.
  • Experience working with unstructured data sets comprised of multiple disparate data sources.Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Modeling human performance from a data set.
  • Experience with DIS/HLA or other modeling and simulation protocols.
  • A demonstrated successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores.
