Aptima, Inc. currently has an opportunity in our Learning and Training Systems (LTS) Division for a Scientist/Psychologist interested in helping to lead our training and performance assessment activities within the United States Air Force (USAF).

Job Summary:

  • The Scientist is primarily responsible for leading scientific and technical work that responds to marketplace needs and that is of high quality and delivered in a timely manner to meet customer needs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Successfully design and implement the scientific and technical aspects of projects and proposals.
  • Lead in the execution of technical tasks under projects and proposals, resulting in work that is timely and of high quality.
  • Contribute significantly to and/or lead the production of Aptima technical reports, proposals, and published papers. May serve as lead author. 
  • Lead project and proposal teams in the Project/Proposal Manager role, collaborating between teams and Divisions as necessary.
  • May successfully design the technical and scientific aspects of a project in the PI role.
  • Support more senior staff through the application of technical knowledge by contributing to proposals, participating in capabilities briefs, preparing software or meeting materials, integrating/installing software, meeting with customers, etc.
  • Continue education in own professional domain (conferences, reading). Take initiative to do background reading and/or other forms of professional development related to project needs and technical areas.
  • Present work at professional conferences and/or in professional publications.
  • Conduct all work in accordance with contractual compliance and all laws, keeping in alignment with the core values of Aptima.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Sustained record of expertly addressing most or all requirements of subordinate titles.

Demonstrated technical and leadership ability to take on this level of requirements.

  • Possesses general understanding of multiple scientific domains relevant to Aptima, with a primary focus on a specialty that is integrated with other domains at Aptima.

 

Minimum Requirements for Position:

  • US Citizens only
  • Minimum of a Masters' in Human Factors Psychology, Educational Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Applied Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' of relevant work experience
  • Experience utilizing training and learning theory to develop and evaluate training programs or tools, especially as it relates to augmented/virtual/mixed reality
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written), which will be examined by providing a "job talk" during the interview process as well as providing publications or written work samples

 

The ideal candidate also will have at least three of the following:

  • Proficiency in defining measures for assessment for learning and performance
  • Proficiency in domain analysis techniques such as task analysis, training needs analysis, system requirements analysis, etc.
  • Proficiency in experimental design and statistical data analysis, and associated statistical software packages
  • Experience working with software engineers, leveraging AGILE methodologies, to create new technology

 

Desired but not required:

  • Applied research experience with the USAF
  • History of leading winning proposals
  • Experience developing/delivering military training
  • Experience conducting research within the military domain
  • Experience working in situations that are outside applicant's immediate area of expertise

 

Working Conditions (ADA accommodations may be sought):

  • Business travel will be required, oftentimes to military sites, approximately 25% of the time.
  • Unless otherwise agreed to in writing or authorized under policies of the Company, the employee must report each working day to one of Aptima's places of business to conduct their employment activities.  All use of leave time and Aptima's work-at-home policy shall be reasonable and within the intended scope of the policy.
  • All commutes to an employee's assigned Aptima place of business will be made without expectation of travel per diem.
