Aptima, Inc. currently has an opportunity in our Performance Assessment Technologies (PAT) Division for a Senior Scientist/Psychologist interested in helping to lead our training and performance assessment activities within the Air Force. Work will be conducted onsite in Fairborn, OH at a customer facility.

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (we cannot allow visa holders or permanent residents)
  • Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology, Educational Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Applied Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field 
  • Experience in live, virtual (e.g., simulation), constructive (LVC) training research
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong experimental and statistical background (e.g., experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, statistics, etc.) and a familiarity with a wide variety of applied research topics/methods/techniques is highly desired (e.g., survey designs, objective performance measurement, speed/accuracy trade-offs, job analyses, content analyses, meta-analytic techniques, Markov chains, knowledge elicitation techniques, etc.)
  • Experience managing multiple projects, to include customer interfacing, planning and tracking tasking
  • Experience working with software engineers, leveraging AGILE methodologies, to create new technology
  • Experience conducting applied research within the military domain, specifically the USAF
  • Experience developing/delivering military training
  • Experience working in situations that are outside applicant's immediate area of expertise
  • Experience in leading and supervising scientists and engineers
  • Experience leading knowledge elicitation sessions with subject matter experts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

The ideal candidate also will have at least three of the following:

  • Proficiency in defining measures for assessment for learning and performance
  • Proficiency in domain analysis techniques such as task analysis, training needs analysis, system requirements analysis, etc.
  • Proficiency in experimental design and statistical data analysis, and associated statistical software packages
  • Expertise in team and/or leader development
  • Experience utilizing training and learning theory to develop training programs or interventions
